The Rochester & Genesee Valley Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO combines the strength of unions and working families by uniting them to improve the lives of working families, by bringing fairness in the workplace and through securing social and economic equity in our region. 

 
Internship Program

Qualifications: 

To participate in the internship graduate students must be currently enrolled or accepted into a graduate program and undergraduate students must be enrolled in a college or university.  The internship is available during the fall and spring semesters as well as the summer. Basic qualifications are as follows:

  • Internship is open to all majors
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in person and over the phone
  • Basic understanding of Organized Labor
  • Basic understanding of Government and Legislative process

Job Descriptions:  

  • Issues research
  • Assist with the development and distribution of marketing materials
  • Assist in planning and organizing events
  • Database and record management        
  • Assist with member and community outreach
  • Clerical and administrative tasks

Learning objectives:

  • Gain first-hand knowledge of the Labor process
  • Knowledge of organizing techniques used by union members
  • Understanding of legislative process beginning at the grassroots level
  • Improved communication skills
  • Increased awareness and familiarity with news/media processes
  • College Credit is available
