The intent of this flyer is to introduce the services provided by the Rochester and Genesee Valley Workforce Development Center by answering a series of commonly asked questions.

 

What is the Workforce Development Center (WDC)?

The Rochester and Genesee Valley WDC was established in July 2000.  It is one of five sites operating statewide and covers the entire 11 county area of the Rochester and Genesee Valley Labor Federation.

Where is the Rochester and Genesee Valley WDC located?

The Rochester and Genesee Valley WDC is not a building with classrooms, but rather it is a partnership of unions, employers/associations, and educational vendors all of whom deliver a variety of training programs to union members.  These educational classes and training programs can be delivered anywhere within the 11 county area.  They can be held at local union halls, on company property, or at the educational provider’s location.

What type of training does the WDC fund?

Most types of training are fundable.  Some examples are:

            Computer Skills

            Keyboarding

            Math

            Conflict Resolution

            Stress Management

            Communications Skills

            Ergonomics

            CDL Training

            Team Building

            Pneumatics

            CAD Training

            Plumbing

            CPR/First Aid

            Sign Language

            Spanish

What type of impact has the WDC made so far?

During the last 7 years, the Rochester and Genesee Valley WDC has funded the following:

            Training Classes Completed            915

            Union Members Trained             10,454

            Participating Local Unions                43

            WDC Funds Used               $1,066,000

 

What are some of the reasons my union should be involved?

A skilled membership is a competitive membership.

You choose the location of the training.

You choose the training that is the most appropriate for your membership.

You choose the training provider.

The WDC will help fund the training and offer technical assistance.

Most types of education and training classes are fundable.
