Recognizing the solidarity with this struggle requested by the International Trade Union Confederation;

Therefore Be It Resolved that the Rochester & Vicinity Labor Council, AFL-CIO endorse the support expressed to the Egyptian people by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, as well as his letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, urging her to assert the full influence of the American government with the Egyptian government to stop the violence and stand with the Egyptian people in this moment of crisis.

Waterford Solidarity Resolution

As unanimously adopted by the Rochester & Vicinity Labor Council, AFL-CIO, on March 12, 2009.

WATERFORD SOLIDARITY RESOLUTION

Whereas Waterford, Ireland became one of Rochesterıs sister cities in 1983, and

Whereas in commemoration of this relationship Waterford crystal is displayed in Rochester’s City Hall, and

Whereas the Waterford Wedgwood Company has been placed in receivership, its Waterford plant shut down and its 800 workers made redundant, and

Whereas, these workers, represented by Unite, led the February 23 Dublin march of 150,000, called by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions to protest economic conditions in Ireland, and

Whereas our brothers and sisters are staging a sit-in at the Waterford Crystal plant, and

Whereas the 1400 workers at Waterfordıs Bausch and Lomb plant, represented by SIPTU, are likewise threatened with redundancy,

Therefore be it resolved that the Rochester and Vicinity Labor Council communicate to leaders of Unite, SIPTU and the Waterford Central Trade Union our solidarity with their struggle and that we express our concern to Rochester Sister Cities (ISCOR), to Rochester Mayor Robert Duffy, to Waterford Mayor Jack Walsh, to the Rochester City Council, and to Bausch and Lombıs Rochester headquarters.
