Congress must vote troops home

I read with much dismay but no surprise that Congressman Randy Kuhl once again is attempting to reinvent history (Aug. 16 essay "Congress mustn't micromanage war"). The fact is that the Republican majority voted to give the president authority to invade Iraq.

Someone has to put an end to the Bush administration's dictatorship and his war. As an honorably discharged Marine who served in the Vietnam War, I find it repulsive and despicable that Kuhl, R-Hammondsport, Steuben County, is blaming the Democrats for putting our troops in harm's way. Both parties are to be blamed; however, the Democrats realize it is time to bring our precious men and woman home from a war that cannot be won and has already taken nearly 4,000 U.S. troops.

Scrutinizing Kuhl's voting record, it should be evident to all that his primary concern is not his constituents, nor the safety of our American troops, but his allegiance to the GOP. As a voter of the 29th Congressional District, I will be casting my vote for retired Naval Commander Eric Massa, who has pledged to vote to bring our troops home.
