WORKERS ANGRY OVER KUHL FLIP-FLOP ON
EMPLOYEE FREE CHOICE ACT
STATEMENT OF JIM
BERTOLONE, PRESIDENT
ROCHESTER &
GENESEE VALLEY AREA LABOR
FEDERATION
(Corning, NY) - The Employee
Free Choice Act will restore fairness to the
American workplace. Freedom of
association is a basic right. Yet, far too
often, employees are harassed and threatened
when they try to improve their working
conditions by forming a union.
A
majority of Congress now recognizes that the
system must be fixed, that democracy must be
restored. On March 1, the Employee Free
Choice Act passed the U.S. House of
Representatives by a margin of 241 to
185.
Randy Kuhl voted "no".
It's a flip-flop pure and simple. Kuhl
actually cosponsored the Employee Free Choice
Act when he first ran for Congress in
2004. Now, reelected, he reversed his
position to vote with George W. Bush, and
became the only cosponsor to take his name off
the bill and vote against it.
We are
here today to express our support for the
Employee Free Choice Act and to tell
Congressman Kuhl that he's got it
wrong.
American workers deserve a free
choice.
But, Randy Kuhl is
standing in the way.
