AFL-CIO Working Families
to Rally at McCain DC Fundraiser
to Press McCain on Jobs, Trade
Dozens
will gather to highlight Sen.
McCain’s Support of Failed Bush
Economic
Policies, including Colombian Trade
Pact
On Tuesday, April 8 at 5:15 p.m.,
dozens of AFL-CIO working
families
will gather outside a
high-dollar fundraiser for Sen. John McCain
to
highlight his support of President
Bush’s failed economic
agenda,
including flawed trade deals
like the one Bush is proposing this
week
with Colombia. As part of
the AFL-CIO’s national
“McCain
Revealed”
campaign, DC workers will call on McCain
to stand up to the
corporate
interests that are pushing trade deals
which hurt America’s
workers and
exacerbate workers’ and human rights
abuses abroad.
Workers affiliated
with Metro DC Labor Council will gather in
front of
the Willard Hotel prior
to Sen. McCain’s fundraising reception
-
which costs a minimum of $1,000 to
attend - to demand that he withdraw
support
for trade deals that have led to
the loss of millions of
middle-class
supporting manufacturing jobs and hurt
workers here and
abroad. Tomorrow,
President Bush is expected to send
Congress a
free-trade agreement with
Colombia, despite the
Colombian
government’s miserable record on
human rights’ abuses
with
regard to trade unionists.
