Protest by workers prompts
Kuhl to cancel $2500
round of golf at Oak Hill Country
Club
(Brighton, NY) –
Congressman John R. “Randy” Kuhl, Jr. (29th
District
of New York) has canceled his planned two day
golf fundraiser at
Oak Hill Country Club due to pressure from
local
workers.
“Although it has not yet
changed on
Kuhl’s fundraising firm’s website: [ http://thehammondgrp.com/_wsn/page5.html ]Kuhl will likely
claim this change was
designed to help him “prepare” for his debate
with
Eric Massa last evening (October 13, 2008).
This is simply
untrue. Kuhl is fearful of facing the working
men and women of
his district because he has failed to get his
job done. He is
afraid to come face to face with local labor
because he already
knows his performance review will be abysmal,”
stated Jim
Bertolone, President of the Rochester &
Genesee Valley Area
Labor Federation, AFL-CIO.
Bertolone
continued,
“Kuhl has failed the working men and women of
his district
at every turn during his tenure in the US
Congress. He failed to
protect jobs by encouraging their outsourcing
to foreign
countries in exchange for larger trade
deficits. He failed to
protect the rights of working men and women in
the workplace by
voting against the Employee Free Choice Act – a
bill he
once sponsored and now calls “communist
legislation”. And most importantly, Kuhl failed
to be a
voice and an advocate for families in his
district throughout
our current economic crisis. By canceling his
golf outing, even
Randy Kuhl understands that his performance has
failed to meet
the cut.”
Local workers, members of the
Rochester
and Genesee Valley Area Labor Federation
(RGVALF), had planned
to picket Oak Hill Country Club at 12 noon,
Tuesday, October 14
to protest an expensive two-day golf fundraiser
to benefit
Congressman John R. "Randy" Kuhl, Jr. (29th
District of New
York). Bertolone concluded, “Although we still
take
serious issue with Kuhl’s lack of leadership
and
representation, we have canceled our picket out
of respect for
our working brothers and sisters at Oak Hill
Country
Club.”
