RELEASE DECEMBER 23,
2008
TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REACHED IN
KALEIDA LABOR TALKS
(Buffalo) -
Negotiators for Kaleida Health and employees in
seven bargaining units represented by 1199
SEIU reached a tentative agreement on all
open issues this evening after an all day
negotiating session called by the Federal
Mediator.
The next step: the
union's 13 member Employee
Negotiating Committee will present the
tentative agreement to the larger
Employee Bargaining Council on Friday. A
membership vote on the proposed
contracts will then be scheduled within the
next several weeks.
Details of
the agreement will be released after the full
membership has had the opportunity to vote
on the package.
Talks between
Kaleida management and 3,000 members of 1199
SEIU began in March. Contracts covering
these employees expired May 31. A Federal
Mediator joined the talks November 12.
Employees in the seven bargaining units
rejected an earlier Kaleida contract offer
in mid-November, while two smaller unit
approved the offer.
1199 SEIU
members in Kaleida work at Women and Children's
Hospital of Buffalo, Buffalo General
Hospital, Millard Fillmore Gates Circle
and Suburban Hospitals, and in many
outpatient facilities and offices
located throughout Erie County. They also
provide health services for approximately
fifty public schools in Buffalo. They work as
registered nurses, nurse practitioners,
licensed practical nurses,
medical technologists and technicians,
pharmacists, administrative, business
office clerical, service, and maintenance
employees.
